A bridge domain is a logical grouping of one or more ports that forward traffic based on Layer 2 address information. Bridge domains can be created to provide layer 2 connectivity between devices that are not on the same Layer 2 network. Bridge domains can also be created to provide layer 2 connectivity between devices on the same Layer 2 network.
Cisco ACI uses bridge domains to provide layer 2 connectivity between devices that are not on the same Layer 2 network. Bridge domains can be created to provide layer 2 connectivity between devices on the same Layer 2 network. Bridge domains can also be created to provide layer 2 connectivity between devices on different Layer 2 networks.
When a bridge domain is created, a logical switch is created. The logical switch contains all of the ports that are associated with the bridge domain. The logical switch forwards traffic between the ports based on the layer 2 address information.
A bridge domain can have one or more subnets. A subnet is a layer 3 network that is associated with a bridge domain. Devices on the same subnet can communicate with each other without going through a router.
A bridge domain can have one or more security groups. A security group is a collection of security policies that are applied to the traffic that passes through the bridge domain.
A bridge domain can have one or more Quality of Service (QoS) policies. QoS policies are used to prioritize traffic that passes through the bridge domain.
A bridge domain can have one or more Application Policy Infrastructure Controller (APIC) objects. APIC objects are used to configure the behavior of the network devices that are connected to the bridge domain.
A bridge domain can be created using the Cisco ACI GUI or the Cisco ACI CLI.
