An Application-Centric Infrastructure (ACI) is a Cisco architecture that enables scalable multi-tenant environments with policy-based automation. The ACI approach uses a centralized policy model to declaratively specify the desired application connectivity and security. The ACI infrastructure then enforces the application connectivity and security policies consistently and automatically across the entire network.
The Cisco ACI fabric is a building block for next-generation data centers that need to be highly scalable, cloud-ready, and application-aware. The Cisco ACI fabric consists of Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches in the access and aggregation layers, and Cisco Nexus 7000 and 7700 Series Switches in the core layer. The Cisco Nexus 9000 Series Switches support both 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 40 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
The Cisco Nexus 7000 and 7700 Series Switches in the core layer provide high-density 10 Gigabit Ethernet and 40 Gigabit Ethernet port densities, as well as port speeds of up to 100 Gigabits per second (Gbps). The Cisco Nexus 7000 and 7700 Series Switches also offer the industry’s highest port-density Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Fibre Channel (FC) ports.
