Configuring MTU for ACI

To ensure that jumbo frames can be used end-to-end across the network, you must configure the MTU size appropriately on all devices in the path, including physical switches, routers, and the ACI fabric.

The ACI fabric supports an MTU size of up to 9216 bytes.

When configuring the MTU size on devices in the network, you must take into account the overhead caused by various protocols. For example, when using IPv4, the maximum packet size is the MTU size minus the IPv4 header size of 20 bytes. When using IPv6, the maximum packet size is the MTU size minus the IPv6 header size of 40 bytes. In addition, if you are using jumbo frames in your network, you must configure the MTU size on the devices to be large enough to accommodate the largest frame size that will be used in the network.

To configure the MTU size on the ACI fabric:

  1. Log in to the APIC GUI.
  2. Choose Fabric > Fabric Policies > MTU.
  3. Click the Edit button.
  4. In the MTU Size field, enter the desired MTU size.
  5. Click the Update button.

After you have configured the MTU size on the ACI fabric, you must also configure the MTU size on the physical switches, routers, and hosts in the network.
